Massive Manmade Sunshield: Scientists Develop a Global Warming Safety Net

The 1991 eruption of the Mt. Pinatubo volcano caused a 1 degree Fahrenheit global cooling effect. The sulfur particles that were discharged from the volcano reflected sunlight away from the Earth’s surface. Scientists inspired by the natural cooling effect of sulfur have proposed that an artificial sulfur haze could protect us from solar radiation in dire circumstances.   Scientists used computer models to test 11 different scenarios. They said the sulfur shield seems like it would work to protect the Earth in her last days, in an extreme case of global warming . But with a strong aversion to geo-engineering and a $400 million a year operating cost, the shield will likely remain a theory.   ...to protect the earth in her last days?!?!...when the days come..i wonder if this manmade sunshield can still save us..?! Take action now. help save the earth!!!

Spoke-Wheeled Eco Cars ... cool

In Benjamin Button fashion, old is new in the Mercedes F-Cell hybrid roadster. The car combines many aspects of the Benz patent motor car, with seating and design features of Forumula One race cars.    Like a speeding herd of turtles, the roadster reaches a top speed of 15 MPH and boasts an operating range of 217 miles. A joystick replaces the steering wheel, so driving has a video game feel.   Mercedes’ hybrid was designed by more than 150 trainees and dual education students at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, Germany, with the help of employees in the fields of electronic, coating technology, automotive mechatronics, product design, and more. The F-CELL hybrid probably won’t make it to the market anytime soon— let’s face it, who besides Jay Leno and some other car geeks would buy it?—but it’s still a fun reminder that environmentally friendly cars… Yes! that's very true..haha..  fastcompany

The Bloom Box: An Energy Breakthrough?

From cbsnews: In the world of energy, the Holy Grail is a power source that's inexpensive and clean , with no emissions. Well over 100 start-ups in Silicon Valley are working on it, and one of them, Bloom Energy, is about to make public its invention: a little power plant-in-a-box they want to put literally in your backyard. You'll generate your own electricity with the box and it'll be wireless. The idea is to one day replace the big power plants and transmission line grid, the way the laptop moved in on the desktop and cell phones supplanted landlines. It has a lot of smart people believing and buzzing, even though the company has been unusually secretive - until now.   K.R. Sridhar invited "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl for a first look at the innards of the Bloom box that he has been toiling on for nearly a decade. Looking at one of the boxes, Sridhar told Stahl it could power an average U.S. home. "The way we make it is in two blocks. This is...
